The Heavy's first melee weapon was a lead pipe. The Bear Trap shows up as an ornament on the MVM upgrade station. All non-Scout classes could use frag grenades as well. Speaking of which, when the game still had grenades, the Scout had conc grenades, the Soldier a nail grenade, the Pyro napalm grenades, the Demo and Heavy MIRVs, the Engie an EMP grenade, the Medic a heal grenade, the Sniper a Bear Trap, and the Spy a gas grenade. Before he had a stickybomb launcher, the Demoman had a detpack or modified MIRV grenade as his secondary. Then it got replaced by the Scattergun because that fared better with his general playstyle. This actually got quite far into development, appearing as late as Trailer 2. Then, the Scout got a nailgun as his primary (it was his primary in Team Fortress Classic). The SMG was later given to the Sniper as his secondary. At first, the Scout and the Medic were supposed to have SMGs as primary weapons. Some stuff about when the game was originally in development: The cooldown for this sort of thing is 1.25 seconds. Even in the case of shotguns, one of the pellets on that first shot will go straight down the crosshair before random spread kicks in. This is actually true of any bullet-shooting weapon that isn't a sniper rifle. The first shot of the revolver is always 100% accurate to the reticule.
